Looking for partner to start a social network site?

Look for a partner to startup my own social networking site. This site will be much better solution to social networking than myspace and facebook. I can go in details regarding the project later on.





Not trying to hire anyone here, but looking for someone who will be interested in putting 50/50 effort and money into the project. Most of the site has already done, just need make changes to the frontend and layout design. So, if someone interested and have the following skills: php, mysql, css, ajax and etc.

Good online tech community/site, with a good user base?

I'm looking for a good online tech community or site I can belong to and visit daily regarding computer security, Windows tips/tricks, the latest and greatest in technology...things like that. I need an online "home", some place that's "happening" if you know what I mean, or a cool IRC chat room where there's an actual conversation going on. I've tried:

facebook is pretty much a more mature, better and safer version of myspace. it is for highschoolers and up. basically, once you have signed up, you just put in some information about yourself in the boxes that it provides and upload a picture and it is a way to communicate with your friends. it is a private site, which means that search engines cannot get into your personal page, as they can on myspace. pretty much, if you dont like myspace, you will like facebook.

to get new posts by email, you need to use autoresponder. You can use a free one at freefollowup.com and to set up anonymous comment, just go to your blogger settings. I think it's somewhere on the comments section.

how similar can the design of a site be to another site before it infringes on copyright?

Your safest bet would be to design your page *independently* of the third-party page. You can look at it, but not study its specifics.
Reply:Logos and text removed? Yes, that is alright. As long as you remove anything that adds a label to the site. The positioning of objects is not cause for infringement. But scrutinize the page and plan on getting to safe zone by shifting things about and adding more content.
Reply:If you have a diffrent script that you use compare to the original design that you want to copy, is not under Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 as long as you have a diffrent name of the website and does not pishing (imitate in overall design) any website.

whenever i open Facebook.com i get a page that looks different than the normal layout of the site.. it looks very wrong .. i tried using firefox instead of internet explorer, the site opened in normal formal for a while, but now its looking weird all over again .. how can i browse the site normally?!?

It sounds like you may have spyware on your system that is "phishing"' the webpage so that when you go to the website it pretends to be facebook, but it is really trying to steal your login information.y suggestion is to download a free antisspyware program and see if you can remove it.

Is this a good idea for a website?

I have an idea for a website that would be like myspace.com except users would get a revenue share for the advertising on their profiles and picture pages.





I know mylot.com does something like this, but their page layout is bad and it doesn't have the community feeling that myspace, facebook, or hi5 has. It's more like a glorified forum.





The site layout would be much cleaner than myspace and it would be just as easy to network and keep in touch.





Would you join a site like this? Why or why not?

Reply:Well, I think it may be hard to decide who's pages are getting the most people who use or buy from the advertisers. Say your advertiser is Nike. Say your page gets 1,000 hits a day but only 5 of those people decide to go through and buy Nike shoes. But my page gets 100 hits and since all my friends like to spend spend spend, 25 of them buy Nike shoes. Now who gets the bigger cut? You or I? I'm no expert, just a thought...





I don't think I would join unless i thought my chances of generating a good amount of income were good. Then again how can I be sure your aren't scamming me? Another big problem, IMO.

Myspace, Facebook...I have them but I rarely check into my accounts. I'm just not into them. A lot of people seem like they're attention hogs and post dozens of pics and ugh I hate those ugly myspace layouts. Yea I do think a lot of the layouts are ugly and ghetto imo.

Is just telling you what you can do with your profile it is saying no divs that will cover up the advertisement or any other layout/ code to cover advertisements. It is also just saying the codes allowed on myspace. Just copy a code from whateverlife.com and hit ctrl a ctrl c then go into your about me section and click ctrl v and that will paste it then click save all changes. Internet browsers not loading.?

I have three browsers: Mozilla, IE, and AOL. IE and AOL will not load a page at all, and Mozilla will load most pages, but when I get to one that it won't load, it also won't load any other link I click afterwards. I have to exit out of it and restart Mozilla for it to work again. It also won't load pictures off of Facebook or Myspace, and will not load layouts. I have cleared all cookies, etc., and restarted my computer and my wireless internet connection. It has never acted like this before. Any way to fix it?

im guessing you have used frames or iframes in your designs. That is a big no no for web designing specially when it comes to compatibility. Use Adobe firworks and dreamweaver, and stick to center aligned web designs when you start up, then move on to CSS as you advance. Total training has a lot of video tutorials that you can order online. they are great.

As for use of CSS, it's not recommended since it's not recognizable on older browsers. Again, there are no version of CSS which is compatible with older browsers. Now that they re-did the whole "limited profile" layout...how do I make it so only SOME people can see my notes?

How can I make my notes on Facebook not visible to those that can only see my limited profile?
Log into facebook. Go into Edit my applications on the left hand side. find notes and edit it's settings.

Nope there isn't anything like that at the moment. There is an official online petition going around to get colored profiles on facebook though. So maybe in the future.

There is an application called "iLike", which allows you to put music on your profile. Here's the link:

The only thing you can do with the layout is move the sections around to where you want them to go. Just click on the heading of one (for example, "education info"), hold it, and drag it to another section on your profile.

facebook started out more for colleges and then about 2 years ago they opened facebook up for high school students. During these two early stages of facebook you had to be invited to join by some one in you school network [you had to be invitied by some one who went to your school] or sign up using your school email, such as janedoe@college.com. About a year ago they made facebook avaible to all people to join.





You can change your layout but not to the degree that you can change your myspace. You can change the order of all the stuff on your page but you can't change the background and such. Facebook has different "Applications" that you can add that allow you to add music, trivia, horoscopes, video, etc. Once you add applications you can chose weither or not to have them show up on your profile [and in what order they show up] or you can add them but not have them show up on your profile if you like a clean simple profile.





To add friends you can either search for them or browse for them based on their network. To talk to people you can comment them or message the.





The best way to figure out how to do other things is just poke around!! :]
Reply:You can't do a layout like myspace, but how it works is you add applications (they have a billion of them) to make your profile more interesting, instead of having to look all over the place trying to find graphics and layouts, they are all right there. Plus you can stay alot more connected with your friends because you can play games with them by adding apps, or draw things....it's alot more personal and fun. I would give it a try. I have both, but I like my facebook alot better.

The wall is really for your friends to send you messages, videos, pictures, etc. You can't add a layout, as someone else mentioned. Facebook is more professional and is for the older crowd who doesn't mind being "plain and boring".

Nope, Facebook doesn't do layouts like MySpace. They have applications instead to make your page original. Click the "Applications" link at the left, then click the "Browse More Applications" blue button in the upper right hand corner to browse and search for apps on topics you like. You can play games with your friends or send them stickers -- there's really a little bit of everything. You can also look at your friend's pages to see if you like what they have -- just put your cursor over the name of the app to check it out and add it.

There is no way to change your layout on facebook. My guess this will be coming soon though, since the designers of facebook are continually trying to upgrade it. You can't post music on facebook like you can on myspace (it plays automatically when you load the webpage). You can share the item though.

Facebook does not have custom layout's that Myspace has. Everyone's profile (minus the billions of applications) looks pretty much the same. Your can rearrange your profile a little as far as where you want certain boxes to be.

You can browse applications there. Also, if you see an application you like on someone's profile there is usually a link to add it to yours. To put pictures on your profile page, add the "Fun wall" application. Anyways, the "Photos" application is very user friendly with FB, you can easily upload a complete photo folder at once.





You can maintain any number of photo albums you want.





Fun thing about FB is, it's applications. Try to find cool applications. You can find them by looking at your friends profiles.





It's a bit different from Myspace. But, when you get used to this, you'll find it's more exciting. Less spam than Myspace.





It's more easier to keep in touch with your friends with FB, thanks to the news feed feature. You can decide what is to be published, and what not to be published to your personal news feed

I actually think both of them suck. Tom stole Friendster's layout and created myspace while that Harvard kid (what's his name?) stole the idea from the company he was working for and made Facebook 'cuz he knew how to write code.





But if I *had* to pick, I'd pick TOM 'cuz atleast he seems to care about the myspace users. The Harvard kid seems preoccupied with trying to figure out how to make Facebook go public and be the next Google. Too much money on the mind. Plus Tom's cuter, lol.

Reply:i've been having the same problem. if you notice, if you log out there will probably be a box telling you to enable javascript. this can be done by going to tools, internet options, security, custom level, scrolling down to spripting, and then choosing to enable active scripting.

Is Facebook as perpetually broken as MySpace?

I'm pretty much sick of MySpace's never-ending unexpected errors and that the layout on pages is screwed up as often as not. So, if I go to Facebook, will I be just as ticked off, or is it better?

naw, you cant change your layout for the most part. you can move around boxes (just drag them around your page). as for music, you can do lots of stuff, like just make a playist or link to another music account (just browse applications in the music category). if you have any other questions you can just email me :)

All you have to do is go to Applications (It's on the left side) then click on Browse more Applications. Then on the right side, it shows a list of categories to choose from, including Music.





After you click Music, see which one of the programs you like the best then add it. After you have done this, it should be on your profile. After that, you can add the songs you want.

Why does Facebook look weird right now?

My Facebook page has all these weird, uneven light blue boxes around each section. Is this a temporary glitch, or is this some new layout innovation?

I'm really hoping that it is a glitch and not a new layout because everything is on the left side of the page in one giant column and nothing is on the right. Can't even read any of my stuff and it is taking forever to load. It is only the front page that has it though, the profile page.

I log on to Facebook,


but something's wrong with it.


It's not letting me view the normal layout.


It's got the word "Search" on top with the little text box below it, but then I have to scroll down to see my updates and such.


It doesn't even have the blue border anymore.

It never started doing this until a few weeks ago, and there is the very rare day that it switches back to the normal view.

I don't think there's anything you can do about it. There's probably a bug in the facebook operating system that can only happen with your model of computer.

just wondering what the main differences are betwween the two in regards to the layout features. (from my understanding myspace is more creative) Is a myspace profile similar to that of facebook or are they completely different? how so?

Myspace vs. Facebook?
Myspace-you can design your own page-be as creative as you want. Facebook-you can't design your own page-everyone has the same layout. Facebook- have tons of new applications (i.e.-fantasy sports, movie trivia, super walls etc). Facebook-you have the ability to share photos with people that are in the photo by "tagging" them. Myspace-you can't do that. They both have walls where people can write on your page where it is visible to all users. You can set your profile to private where only your friends can view your profile (myspace and fbook)...tons more of differences and similarities. I prefer them both because some of my friends that aren't on fbook are on myspace and vice versa and they both have different purposes. It's your preference.

Facebook isn't hard to use. I figured it out in a few minutes, but I hate it. It Sucks. It's sometimes Slow, but with the Profile thing. Most Profiles are private were people who aren't friends with them can't view it, so if you wanna View it add them. Easy as that %26amp; people who said she is Dumb, Back off. Not many people know how to work everything that has to deal with Technology. Goodluck with figuring it out :)

facebook is different than myspace; there are no layouts, no bulletins, no "comments", etc...





instead of layouts everyone has the same simple basic profile. instead of bulletins people have statuses and a news feed about everything that everyone does (like for example, if someone comments someone's picture, the news feed says "_______ has commented _____'s picture" if they're both friends with you), and instead of comments there is a wall on everyone's profile that allows people to write posts.





it's fairly simple once you get the hang of it. and there are MANY different applications to add to your profile.

So about one week ago, I started having problems with Mozilla. Yahoo is my home page. I loved the four tabs on the top "featured, entertainment, sports, video." Normally, if I clicked on one tab, it would show me four stories under that category. Now, however, it simply goes to the Yahoo Sports page or entertainment page and doesn't let me look the other stories first. Also, sometimes my Facebook profile loads practically in HTML form, and not in the nice layout usually seen.





I have uninstalled and reinstalled firefox, checked for updates, and uninstalled my last add-on. McAfee and my spyware programs say there are no issues. What's wrong?

I live and breath Firefox. Do you have the extension add block plus installed? Sometimes that causes pages to look different.


Crap, I know what your problem is now. You need to add an update to Firefox for windows media player. Try installing the update, it's not a normal update so it won't do it through the normal way.


Just save and open, you should be fine. Here is the link.





I say this because many of the stories are video related, which may not be showing up. Just try it, it can't hurt your Firefox any.
Reply:That's an odd problem. I've never had that happen and I've been using Mozilla/firefox for quite a while now. Have you tried emptying your computers Temp Internet files, cookies, and cache?





Goto Tools%26gt;Options%26gt;Privacy Tab%26gt;Clear Now at the bottom. Check everything except for your saved passwords box. See if that clears up your problem. Remember to restart Firefox.

Facebook's profile sections, like the wall, info about you, your photos, friends, etc.. they can all be re-arranged if you click on the titlebar of that section, such as "The Wall" and drag it around your profile page.





There are also applications you can add, which are things like games, "pets", drawing, video, horoscopes, etc. These are also moveable on the profile page.





You cannot customise the pages as fully as myspace allows, but I find this to be one of their advantages. The load time for myspace for my connection is ridiculous for some reason. Takes forever to load myspace pages, simply because people ram so much crap onto them and customise them so profusely. Facebook pages, on the other hand, tend to load in relatively the same amount of time...

You can add songs, but only with different applications.


Edit your profile with personal stuff, but that's really the most you can do before you get applications.

Reply:Unfortunately you cannot put layouts on it, but you can put various applications on your page. All you have to do is go to the left and you will see all of the applications that you have. If you want to add more just click 'Applications.' If you want to take them off go to "Edit" which is next to Applications and remove those that you don't want. You can also edit them so that only certain people can see them. When you add the applications you can put them in whatever order you want on your page. If you want to edit your profile just go to profile which will be the first button on the top and you just follow the directions there. I hope I was helpful!

I think you can add music through one of the applications, however, I have not found a way to automatically play the music when the profile loads.

no, it's not possible, as far as I know, facebook has no area to input custom code for a page, and therefore, there is no way to use code from a myspace layout on a facebook page.

Facebook doesn't have "layouts" and stuff like that. If you want that, go to MySpace. Facebook is more for high school %26amp; college students to stay connected by networks. You can add applications to your Facebook and that's about as spruced up as it gets.

facebook is a little different than myspace, but personally i like it a lot better because you meet ppl within your networks and its a lot less "stalkerish". unfortunatly, there are no layouts, but there are applications you can add that do different things. you can edit them in the toolbar on your homepage, left hand side. also, you dont have to switch networks, you can just add them. it is possible to be in more network than one. poking can mean anything, it depends on who pokes you. it can be flirty, annoying, or just plain creepy. luckily you can either poke back or hide it. one of my favorite things about facebook is that you can add millionsof photos and tag your friends. the embarrassing drunk ones are the most fun. enjoy!
Reply:yeah facebook can be kinda ocnfusing at first, for the layouts, you cant upload them like myspace, all you can do is drag the boxes around and put them in order how you like, uploading pictures is easy , just click "add new photos and go to the file where the pictures are and check off which ones you want, but there will a step by step guide to help you, you can add friends and look at there profile and pictures and write on there wall, and you can post notes also, and there is a news wall when you first sign in so that you can see any updates that any of your friends have made, there are also alot of fun applications that you can add to your profile, and you can put security on your profile so that only your friends can see your profile for your safety. Oh and by the way , if you change your network your profile wont change, it will stay exactly the same :) ..hope i helped! :)

lol when I first joined Facebook, I also thought myspace was definitely easier! But here's some quick intro tips to Facebook:





First invite your friends! On the top there's a Friends tab with an upside-down triangle next to it. Hit the triangle until you get to 'Find friends.' You can then add your friends according to your email or school.





Next get cool applications! Go to the left part of the screen where it says Applications. Hit the 'edit' button next to it. Then hit the 'Browse More Applications.' It'll show you the most popular applications. To add the applications, click on the name and then the 'Add Application' button on the right side. Just kinda look around for cool ones or use the same ones your friends have.





Finally organize your applications! Hit the 'Profile' button at the top. You can then change up the order of where your applications end up on your profile page by just draggin them to where you want to put them -- whether it's higher up the page or you switch it from the left/right sides.





A lot of it is really just playin around with it to figure it out. There are SO many privacy setting available also, but they're kinda hard to explain. Just keep lookin around, it's kinda hard at first but you'll get it. At first I *hated* Facebook, but now I find I'm on Facebook more than myspace. I still love myspace though! :)
Reply:you can't put layouts on facebook like on myspace! but they have cool applications! make sure you get the free gifts application so that you won't have to pay $1 to send gifts to friends! I also have the top friends application so that it's easier to get to my friends pages.





there will be a thing on facebook that says "find your friends". just enter your email address and password and it will find your friends from your email address book on facebook. when you edit your profile, you can add schools and work so that you can browse and find your friends

No,it is not possible,you are left with the simple background,some items in the layouts such as their position in the profile can be changed but thats the limit.
